I think it's true for most people that some recipes are a little intimidating.  And it helps to watch what's being made on a show first - which is probably one of the reasons Ina Garten's show, "How Easy is That?" is so popular.  That's why I love cooking with my mom.  I can watch a little and I can do a little.  And I'll feel more confident making it on my own next time.
